Eufy’s been coy about its upcoming smart display, but I managed to snag some hands-on time in New York City this week.

Psst! Don’t tell anyone, but Anker-owned Eufy has a smart display coming out. Details about the portable screen have been elusive, but I got up close and personal with the device during a Eufy press event in New York this week.

Roughly the size on an iPad mini, the Eufy Smart Display E10 isn’t the all-purpose display that Apple’s tablet is. Instead, it’s focused on home security, with the device capable of taking charge of your various Eufy cameras, sensors, and alarm systems.

The E10’s best feature looks to be its ability to display up to four live Eufy security camera feeds at a time on its 8-inch screen, saving you the trouble of digging out your phone to check activity around your home. A separate column lets you browse recorded video events, as well as monitor the status of your cameras and base station. I’m also told the E10 will let you arm and disarm your Eufy security system. In this respect, it’s similar to the Amazon Echo Hub, which can show live feeds from Ring security cameras and arm/disarm Ring Alarm systems.

The dual-band Wi-Fi display comes with a charging dock, allowing you to place it on a counter or tabletop. There are also mounting slots in the rear for hanging the E10 on a wall, such as in the kitchen or next to your front door. In portable mode, the E10 should run for about 24 hours on its fully charged internal 5000mAh battery, according to a spec sheet. In our review of the Echo Hub, we criticized that display for not offering a battery-power option.

Besides using the charging dock, you can also charge the E10 via USB-C port on the right edge of the device; right next to the USB port is a microSD memory card slot.

Eufy is pitching the E10 smart display as an accessory for its HomeBase Professional S1, the brand’s upcoming home security base station and NVR. But according to Eufy reps at the event, the E10 connects to your Wi-Fi router rather than directly to the HomeBase, meaning it should be compatible with other Eufy base stations and devices as well.

This news story is part of TechHive’s in-depth coverage of thebest home security cameras.

So, when will the Eufy E10 smart display finally go on sale? Good question. The Eufy spokespeople on hand didn’t have any details, while chatter online has it that the unit is delayed until August. Pricing also appears to be up in the air. I’ve reached out to Eufy corporate for more info.
